Big Grove's Summer Jam Concert Series is excited to host David Zollo, for a free show on the patio of Big Grove Brewery & Taproom in Iowa City on Sunday, May 30 from 1-3pm.

Since bursting on to the midwestern music scene with the band High and Lonesome in 1992, Zollo has had a busy career. Along with constant touring, in the U.S and Europe, with High and Lonesome (1992-1998;) and his current band, The Body Electric (1998-present) he has recorded 7 records of his own material, including the most recent, 2015's "For Hire."

In addition, he founded and operated the seminal, Iowa-based, roots music label, Trailer Records (Bo Ramsey; Joe and Vicki Price; Greg Brown; The Pines; Brother Trucker; Kelly Pardekooper; Pieta Brown, as well as his own work, and that of others, from 1994-2005;) played keyboards and sang harmonies on many records by Nashville folk singer Todd Snider; fellow Iowan William Elliot Whitmore, and Greg Brown, amongst many other artists; and worked as a producer (The Pines; Brother Trucker; Kelly Pardekooper.) More recently, he also formed a new band with Whitmore, guitarists Stephen Howard and Steve Doyle, and Body Electric drummer Brian Cooper, called Middle Western. Their debut release, When Your Demons Are Under Ground And You’ve Got To Dig Them Up. was recorded at Lone Tree, Iowa’s Flat Black Studios, and was released in 2018.

Despite the many things David Zollo has done during his career, it is as a live performer that many feel he's at his best.

Big Grove's Summer Jam Concert Series is excited to host Ben Schmidt Band for a free show on the patio of Big Grove Brewery & Taproom in Iowa City on Sunday, June 6 from 1-3pm.

Singer/ Songwriter Ben Schmidt steps out of the “coffee house” and into the “barrelhouse.” With the help of the Power Plant Rhythm Section—Matt Bernemann (drums), and Rich Wagor
(bass)—this trio celebrates everything from blues, funky soul, to outlaw country, folk, and rock and roll. “The Band” gives Schmidt an opportunity to set aside the largely introspective acoustic songs featured on his releases, and focus on the joy of playing live music with supremely talented musicians. Digging in with a mix of original tunes and old favorites, the band likes to “keep it greasy”, to stretch out and reimagine arrangements on the fly. The veteran core of the
BSB is linked to many of the regions’ finest players, and guest appearances and cross-combinations are frequent -- adding to the easy-going, playful dynamic of the live experience.

FREE SHOW: Big Grove Summer Jam Concert Series | Dogs on Skis

Sunday June 20th, 2021, 1:00PM - Sunday June 20th, 2021, 3:00PM

Big Grove Brewery1225 S Gilbert StIowa City, IA52240 Map

Big Grove's Summer Jam Concert Series is excited to host Iowa Rock and Roll Music Association Hall of Famers, Dogs on Skis, for a free show on the patio of Big Grove Brewery & Taproom in Iowa City on Sunday, June 20 from 1-3pm.

Dogs on Skis formed in the mid-1980s playing covers of classic rock. The band gained popularity in and around Iowa City/Cedar Rapids by focusing on playing songs that people liked to dance to. From the beginning, the focus was put on the band’s ability to perform material with vocal harmonies. In 1990 the Dogs released their first album ‘I Bark Therefore I Am’. As the band gained popularity they began to play larger outdoor events, wineries, and breweries. That trend continues today as the band typically performs 40-70 shows a year.

Over the years, the band continued to grow and mature. Instead of becoming complacent and content with where they were, they continually overhaul their material based on crowd reaction and requests. Because of this, they can perform hundreds of songs and can play many of them as requested. Dogs On Skis' goal is to play the music they like and that their fans will enjoy dancing to. With a backlog of material covering the 50’s to the present, the Dogs have the uncanny ability to read a crowd and mold a set on the fly to the audience in front of them. Not unlike a quarterback reading a defense and calling an audible play at the scrimmage line, Dogs On Skis are well known for ‘calling an audible’ while in the middle of a song so the members know exactly what to do to keep a dance floor filled. In 2013 they were inducted into the Iowa Rock and Roll Music Association Hall of Fame.

• Social distancing will be required. The max group size is 8 guests per table.
