Doug Goettsch, Managing Partner

Doug has been involved in the hospitatlity industry in one form or another for more than 25 years. Born and bred in Iowa, Doug’s foodservice experience has taken him from Nashville to Napa. Chef Goettsch earned his Chef de Cuisine from the Culinary Institute of America at Greystone. His unique take on Midwest cuisine has inspired many of Big Grove’s offerings. You can’t miss Doug – he’s the tallest guy at BGB!


Matthew Swift, Partner

Matt is a native of the Iowa City/Coralville area. Matt co-owns Red’s, Blackstone, 30hop and Pullman Diner, and has established himself as a prominent young business owner in the area. Matt’s passion is driven by hospitality and the desire to give people a genuinely unique experience surrounded by great service, great food, and great beer.


Danny Standley,  General Manager

Danny has always had a passion for making people smile, which has brought him to the hospitality industry. He is often found taking extra steps to give you an experience only expected at a long time friends house. This style of service is his specialty. You can’t miss him, just look for the tallest guy (Doug) and down to his right you will typically find Danny.


Benjamin Smart, Executive Chef

Benjamin comes to Big Grove from The Herbfarm, a five diamond restaurant just outside of Seattle, where he was Executive Sous Chef. Benjamin’s first job fresh out of culinary school was at Sluggers working for the Swifts. It is truly an honor to have Ben’s brilliant career come full circle right here in Solon, Iowa.
